A Parade of Horribles · Chapter 53

The Key and the Pig

The cul-de-sac now holds ten abandoned houses standing in the order their teams were eliminated, the nearest belonging to One Fine Pig. Osvaldo, drinking Busch Light outside garage three with Filipe, explains that transferring heats cost him access to his original heat's garages. Rosetta answers Carl's group message about the goddess: Chachi is obscure and has never been sponsored, unlike Eileithyia, and catchall deities of childbirth, women, water, fire and harvest do badly in the Ascendency; Prepotente matches her to the Aztec goddess of the same name, benevolent in myth and the source of a flood born of her weeping, while Mordecai can only repeat that none of this has happened before. Prepotente also confirms the long-named Hawaiian crawler is alive and goes by Makana, and promises to sing Phil Collins at Donut's imminent concert to earn guild access, which Donut says will be a duet with a heavily dosed Carl. Carl puts his hand on One Fine Pig's garage door and finds Penelope the pig beside their cracked-windshield APV, cleaning up the last of the team's spent gremlin, and takes her home.
