A Parade of Horribles · Chapter 65

Upside Down Over the Slag River

Carl walks the truck onto the wall on its spider legs and inverts it onto a ceiling conduit above a three-storey river of molten metal, the only surfaces not deliberately spiked. In the back Grigori strips the half-mantaurs, floats their spilled guts clear and casts the fusion in stages while Dong Quixote clamps the halves together, eyes shut and crying, his own health far deeper into the red than Carl had realised. Level 75 Slag Elementals leap from the river onto the tracks and hurl molten globs, punching a hole in the truck's hood; they regenerate whenever a corpse falls back into the metal, so the System pays no boss box unless one dies dead-dead. Jurgen buries a battle-axe in one and loses the weapon, and Prepotente broadcasts the real counter — any non-molten metal collapses them. The Roller Limbo and trans-dimensional upgrades both hold, and with ten minutes left the two red health bars merge: Corcunda is one man again, and a god's marked-for-death symbol appears over his head.
