Funeral Bell

The humorless guardians of the sixth floor’s smaller settlements: eight-foot, neckless mushroom-men with white-painted, vaguely human faces under conical caps, wielding spears taller than the bamboo walls they protect. Rigid day and night, they defend the dryad towns with paralytic poison-cloud attacks, but they can’t see invisible attackers, which is exactly how Hunter Zabit’s Night Weasels drop two of them and ambush Carl at the gate.
