Grimaldi (The Vine)

The owner and ringleader of the traveling circus who took the orphaned Signet in, raised her, and became the love of her life. In the cataclysm he transformed into the Vine itself: the mold-parasite that now controls the lemurs, clowns and beasts and regrows them nightly. Signet's daily assaults are her doomed attempt to free (or end) him.

Book 2 appearances

• Chapter 8 — The circus ringleader who raised Signet, now transformed into the Vine, the mold-parasite that controls and regrows the circus nightly.
• Chapter 10 — At the big top’s center Carl confronts the Vine and poisons his own blood to drip on its root.
• Chapter 11 — Carl brokers a truce between Grimaldi and Signet, completing “The Show Must Go On.”
