Prologue: Mordecai’s Tenth Floor

Generations ago, Mordecai’s guide Odette buys her own freedom: with a storm-god summoning gone wrong, she has the bard Chaco worship the goddess Dodola and sacrifice Mordecai’s skyfowl brother Uzzi with the Dart of Ophiotaurus to break the level. Mordecai escapes vowing to find and kill her: the wound beneath his every grudge.
