A Parade of Horribles · Chapter 71

Goodbye at Hungry Eyes

Carl looks in on Bucket Boy in the garage, where Pontiff, hired by Rosetta and Tipid to drive the next heat, is trying to make amends for the deaths of Dong Quixote and Corcunda. Donut asks whether the plan is truly the only way; Carl answers that the floors are stripping away their ability to fight back and that the Emberus quest to kill Hellik has come due, while she counters with Mordecai's warning about Drakea, the crawler whose identical scheme the Nagas cheated into a pointless death. Carl silently rejects Eris, whose price is real devotion rather than worship. Florin's roster settles who leaves: Daniel Bautista with Louis and Britney's consent, Tran, Zhang, Archie and every qualifying member of the 101st, while Florin stays and Osvaldo is barred because he worships a god. Five hundred crawlers fill the square at Hungry Eyes to see two hundred off, with cookies, a boom box and a mood like a wake; Elle openly accuses Linus of poisoning the teapots, so Bautista serves his own breakfast blend instead, a potion that buffs a vehicle or mount.
