Charles Ellis, the Bartender

A hapless NPC bartender at the Desperado Club who has the spectacular misfortune of catching Samantha’s eye. The withering-spirit deity decides he is her boyfriend and totes him around the club through the Minge rampage, dangling him helpless from the ceiling while indignantly insisting she hasn’t kidnapped him (“He’s scared.” “I didn’t kidnap him!”). When the feral demon kills him, an outraged Samantha shrieks “YOU KILLED MY BOYFRIEND!” — and thus ends, in Carl’s words, her short courtship with Charles Ellis the bartender. A throwaway gag that doubles as a grim reminder of how disposable the club’s “NPCs” are treated as being, a beat that pays off in the very next chapter’s reveal about the naturals.
