Dismember the War Mage

The war mage haunting the rear cars of the Dismemberment Limited: an elf-like figure with long silver hair who casts “You’re Not Done Yet,” flaying fallen soldiers into sentient Flesher skins that hunt fresh bones to become Symbiotes. He needed “eight more iterations” to become whatever he’s becoming. Carl ends him with Surprise Three: Donut opens a Hole in the barricade, Carl yanks his head through, Donut snaps the Hole shut. Afterward, seeing shapes in the third car, Carl guesses — unconfirmed — that Dismember was farming dead crawlers, their skin for Fleshers and their bones for stock, to build an army. War mages, it turns out, ride every named train.

Book 3 appearances

• Chapter 12 — The silver-haired war mage of the Dismemberment Limited, flaying the dead into Flesher skins; Carl beheads him through Donut’s Hole spell.
• Chapter 13 — Carl, spotting shapes in the third car, guesses — as an unconfirmed theory — that Dismember was farming crawlers’ skin for Fleshers and bones for stock to build an army.
