Lucia's Dead Man's Switch

~120,000 children held hostage

Zev's revelation that Lucia Mar is a glitch the AI can no longer extract: a living dead man's switch. What was thought to be a harmless start-of-crawl glitch became permanent once Lucia started earning and the System gave her loot boxes to keep her safe. Roughly 120,000 surface children (those who tried to enter the dungeon from one specific kinder-facility wing) are physically alive on the surface but bound to her. The teams once assumed her death would self-correct and release them; now they believe that if she dies, they all die. The Eulogist, the AI of the center system, is suspected to be connected to the hostage mechanism, though even the teams admit they don't know exactly how it's all connected, making Lucia an asset Carl dare not kill.
