Lore · debuts Book 5, Chapter 43 — “Gifts for Donut”

The Midnight Epicure

The Caprid Who Devours the Sky · a ward against night evils

The galaxy's go-to children's bogeyman: “The Caprid Who Devours the Sky,” invoked to scare kids into eating their dinner (or he'll come eat them). His symbol, really a racist caricature of an adult Caprid, evolved over the cycles into a ward against all night evils; Prepotente wears it tattooed on his hand. Carl receives it as a Plenty-sponsor patch, and the Apothecary simultaneously gives Donut a matching “Ab-solar” bracelet, both granting protection against Vampirism and Lycanthropy and +25% magical damage versus sapient undead. Mordecai's alarm at the paired gifts (“you'll want to sew it on right away”) is an ominous hint that a fight with the undead is coming.
