The Apothecary

Carl and Donut’s third and final sponsor, and almost certainly a front for the real Krakaren: not the octopus caricature of Floor Four, but the genuine collective mind slowly crossing the universe, rumored silent partner of the Plenty (the goat-people who own the dungeon’s tunneling system) and therefore all but bottomless in money. The Apothecary blanket-sponsors nearly the entire top ten (Carl, Donut, Prepotente, Miriam, Lucia Mar, Katia, the Popov brothers, Elle and Imani) which Carl reads as political posturing rather than real favor.

Book 5 appearances

• Chapter 16 — Becomes Carl, Donut and most of the top ten’s third sponsor: the rumored real Krakaren, partnered with the goat-folk Plenty.
• Chapter 33 — Their cloaked spokeswoman appears at CrawlCon (she sponsors both Carl and the con) and overrides Circe Took to let Carl address the crowd, then leaves; afterward Uptown Hal warns Carl he doesn’t want to attach himself to the collective.
