Nodlings

The race that splits when it dies

A multi-headed race (two to six heads, usually two or three) with a strange death: when a nodling dies it splits into that many new creatures, each a toddler that grows fast and inherits a fraction of the progenitor’s knowledge, while the original body remains. Signet’s ogre Areson, the dead Over-City strongman Apollon, and Herman the Fleet (in Larracos) are all the same person: the three ogres born when the three-headed nodling Di-we died protecting the child Signet. It also reframes the two-headed Popov Brothers, who picked the nodling race on purpose.
