Lore · debuts Book 3, Chapter 30 — “Mordecai Decodes the Map”
The Iron Tangle Decoded
The whole floor is a racist political cartoon
Mordecai, back from his suspension, reads the floor's map and cracks its real meaning: the Iron Tangle is a galaxy-shaped piece of Borant propaganda. The named-train loops trace the Syndicate's wormhole logo; the abyss is the galactic core; the six station mimics caricature the long-dead H'lene waystation traps; the Krakaren (really 'the Apothecary,' a collective-mind creature that synthesizes anything) and the goat-like Pooka (the Plenty, inventors of the real-time tunneling network) are villainized to push Borant's grudge that the Plenty's comms tech is an addiction plot. Katia further deduces the floor is doubled: each line mirrored upside-down across an empty 'noodle' gap, which is exactly how the self-destruct will work.
