The Initial

A physical chunk of Warlord Fang's brain that the Reaver corporation keeps locked up on one of their worlds. Each year they peel microscopic parts off it to grow new citizens, so Fang's death is no great loss to the corporation: they simply scrape another piece, grow it in a vat for a year or two, bolt on cybernetics, and produce a new Fang. True offspring ‘from the Initial’ have been observed to survive catastrophic events, which is how Fang endured War Crime as a tiny robot-fly fragment.
