Yenks

Tall humanoid aliens with ridged foreheads and bony exoskeletons, “malnourished Klingons.” Yenks have three genders, all required to reproduce; the women, children and the unintelligent third gender live in peaceful communities, while males are forced out at maturity to become bounty hunters and mercenaries. Powerful fighters, they can’t cooperate with other adult males of their kind without fighting, “like betta fish.” Ikicha, author of the cookbook’s 11th edition, was a castrated yenk male. Several work the Hunt as solo hunters; Signet’s caterpillar mount drags in the half-burned captive Bravvo, whom Carl heals rather than kills.
