The minders of children in the crawl
A quietly disturbing detail Mordecai flags: children under a certain age (it varies by intelligence and species) aren’t allowed to enter the dungeon: if they descend, they’re taken away until the crawl ends, looked after by “youth assistants.” Yet the unhinged ~13-year-old Lucia Mar is crawling anyway, and talks to an unseen “youth assistant” named Alexandro whose lines the System censors out of the recap. That a youth assistant is present in the dungeon at all is, per Mordecai, “really strange”: part of the deepening mystery around Lucia and what she’s really after (“enough points to cross the bridge and go home with my papa”).
