Zhang's Only Way Out

Carl and Donut join the party in the back of the Lollipop, where Elle McGibbons and Imani C have brought the mercenary they hired — examined here as Grigori the Placid, a human Level 93 fleshmancer of Team Meadow Lark who worships a deity Carl has never heard of, Gula. Donut presses for the whole plan behind the Corcunda quest, tells Carl the prize is two people carried to the eleventh floor, and refuses to let him hurt Prime Minister Victory. Tran and Zhang then lay out Zhang's intention to kill their octopus mount Torpedo from behind so the System will execute him and Li Na together, since her poisoning has left her killing crawlers and beyond talking to. Carl tells him the trick now only costs the pair their containment, which Li Na can finish a race without and Zhang cannot, and Donut refuses to let either death stand. Watching Dekoki the kappa sing, Carl arrives at an alternative and messages Bodi to jockey in Li Na's place: she is going to leave the dungeon.
