Council in the Stables
In the two hours before the sixth heat the party meets in the advanced pet stables, which Rosetta says is a secondary guild add-on room and therefore a blind spot the deities cannot listen in on. Carl lays out the eleventh-floor plan he has already posted in the Book of Voodoo: keep the NPC teams alive through heat six, clear as many crawlers off the board as possible before the seventh, about two hundred out through the Pineapple Cabaret and, by Mordecai's math, fifteen hundred more taking deals, and he will temporarily leave the party with Donut so he can settle Emberus by making certain Hellik is dead before the floor ends. Imani, whose blood bar has an hour left, is threatening to take a deal; Elle and Prepotente back the plan; Donut is not speaking to him; and Chris, Louis, Donut and Florin are all ruled out of the Cabaret escape because their races or their surgeries may not survive outside an enhancement zone. Linus gets his goodbye party in the commons of Hungry Eyes, where Florin is picking Cabaret volunteers and Bautista has him handing out tea. Rosetta then walks them through the Scavenger myth: the old gods, the all-tree, the vulture Nekhebit and her three children, Apito's rise, and a Scavenger's Daughter who can take the powers of gods, which the war mages, by Akuma's account, believe is Samantha's sand-ooze child.
