Contingency

The skill that comes bundled with the Platinum Hotlist Expansion potion. It lets Carl program actions and reactions for hotlist items against a predetermined set of circumstances, up to ten automations, each able to use several hotlist items at once. It arrives with a new Hotlist contingencies tab in his interface, and he reads it as a much more programmable version of his existing Heart Balance skill. He suspects Lucia Mar already has something like it.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 25 — Unlocked when Carl drinks the potion from his Platinum Boss Box. He opens the new interface tab, works out that each automation can chain several hotlist items, and notes he will need time to play with it.
• Chapter 82 — With several crawler teams drawn against each other, Carl told everyone to forget the transformations and called contingency three, admitting outright that the idea was fucked.
