Denise, the Feral Goose Mother

The Air Quadrant's throne-room boss: a blood-stained white goose in a baby-blue bonnet, kept as Bonnie's pet, who tears Commandant Kane apart and guards his floating house. Denise is secretly a granddaughter of Emperor Anser, plucked from the seventh floor through Anser's gate and left so long in the Nothing that her mind is all but gone. She is an “environmental”: she nullifies all magic in her arena (no spells, scrolls, gauntlet or buffs) AND is immune to the crawlers' own weapons and physical attacks, and only objects already in the house can hurt her. Her flower-mouth fires a shotgun blast of teeth, and she compulsively protects children. The timed falling-house fight ends when Carl jams her head into the kitchen garbage disposal.

• Chapter 16 — Kills Kane, then fights the trio in the falling house; defeated head-first in the garbage disposal.
