Place · debuts Book 4, Chapter 1 — “The Bubbles”
The Fifth Floor ("The Bubbles")
Phase One of Four · 15-day clock
The fifth floor abandons the single-maze format for a sheet of cosmic bubble wrap: 1,172 sealed “bubbles,” each its own self-contained snowglobe world holding ~150 randomly-distributed crawlers. Every bubble is split into four quadrants (Land, Sea, Air, and Subterranean), and each quadrant hides exactly one castle with one stairwell in its throne room. Take the throne (or kill the quadrant boss) and the castle falls, but the stairwell down only opens once ALL FOUR castles in a bubble are taken. Conquer your own and you may cross quadrants to help your bubble-mates; you may not enter other bubbles until they too are “popped.” Carl's team draws Bubble #543, Air Quadrant.
Book 4 appearances
- Chapter 1 — The welcome announcement lays out the bubble/quadrant rules; the trio lands in the Air Quadrant of Bubble #543.
- Chapter 2 — Each bubble runs its own day/weather illusion; Carl polls his contacts to learn who else is stuck in #543.
- Chapter 4 — The recap shows crawlers spinning into wildly different bubbles: ice pyramids and spider caves.
- Chapter 29 — Bubble #543 is fully popped once all four quadrants fall: the dome’s top peels away like an Easter egg.
