Place · debuts Book 4, Chapter 1 — “The Bubbles”
The Wasteland (Gnomish Dreadnaught)
The Air Quadrant castle · a flying junkyard
The Dirigible Gnomes' castle: a jagged, rectangular slab of torn-up ground roughly three football fields wide, held aloft by five colossal balloons under a magical shield and netting, trailing hundreds of ropes, chains, and dangling huts beneath it. A shingled house sits at its center, ringed by corrugated-metal sheds, ballistae, trebuchets, and dozens of moored Mad-Max flying machines. Its throne room and the stairwell sit thousands of feet up, which is the whole problem: the flightless trio has to find a way to reach a castle in the sky.
Book 4 appearances
- Chapter 1 — Mordecai points out the distant speck of the castle near the dome’s ceiling.
- Chapter 2 — Carl studies it through Skarn’s gnomish telescope: a balloon-borne junkyard bristling with bombs and aircraft.
- Chapter 4 — It keeps a daily schedule, parking over the water during the sandstorm and drifting back over the bowl.
