Dirigible Gnomes

Red-pointy-hatted, bulbous-nosed gnomes (cousins to the Bopca Protectors but smaller) who fled a war-torn galaxy by taking permanently to the sky in balloons, airships, and floating settlements. Forced at last to fight or die, they became master bombardiers, raining gravity-fuzed munitions from their dreadnaughts. The Air Quadrant's castle is their flying fortress, the Wasteland. They bomb anything outside the town walls; Hump Town is spared only because of a secret hostage-code arrangement tied to Wynne — one that collapses once he's killed.

Book 4 appearances

• Chapter 1 — Established as the Air Quadrant’s castle faction; their fortress floats miles overhead.
• Chapter 3 — A Drop Bear biplane and a flight of patrol ships harry the trio in the dunes.
• Chapter 6 — Their captive elder Wynne, a Flesh Mechanic, is found chained beneath city hall as the hostage keeping Hump Town safe — but he is killed by another crawler before Carl can free him, jeopardizing the arrangement.
