The Gate Collateral Deal

Carl pawns the Gate for mercenaries & teleports

The Syndicate can't confiscate the Gate of the Feral Gods (the System won't allow it) but won't let Carl keep it on a floor he could depopulate in an hour. Orren proposes the compromise: Carl voluntarily turns in the winding box as collateral, gets a receipt, and is promised the artifact back on the ninth floor for the faction wars. Carl invokes his right to a lawyer, and his new attorney Quasar helps him negotiate further, extracting a Mercenary upgrade, four cretin bodyguards (Bomo, the Sledge, Clay-ton, Very Sullen), and two teleport spells to replicate the Gate's movement powers: Bomo's Teleport to Stairwell and the Sledge's carnage-bringing Zerzura, which was Quasar's idea.
