The Guild of Suffering
Not a real guild or church but a cult (like the third floor's city elves) that worships the Night Wyrm, a demigod outside the regular pantheon (much like Samantha/Psamathe). Everyone who uses a Divine Suffering artifact is automatically marked into it with the Night Wyrm's Nasty Little Web of Suffering tattoo. The cult keeps “memorial crystals” akin to soul crystals whose exact purpose has never been established; a few seasons back the entire seventh floor was built around the cult raising their god. It is bound up with Carl's Ring of Divine Suffering; an achievement notification earned the same season warns of “unintended and unadvertised side effects” from such an item and flags a mental “tingle” that may already be tied to the rising river Carl feels in his mind.
