Henrik

The exhausted “dromedarian” directing Hump Town's rescue efforts: in truth a Changeling Principal wearing the form (and name) of the real Henrik, long since disposed of. He holds the gnomes' collateral pocket-watch and the daily code that keeps the town un-bombed. Charmed by Donut, he explains the watch system and the gnome ambassador's inspections, letting slip the changelings' weary creed: “Sometimes we do things that are not of our nature to protect our own.” Carl's crew murders his decoy body to fool the ambassador; the real principal vanishes into the tomb after the Wasteland falls.

Book 4 appearances

• Chapter 10 — Reveals the mirrored-watch collateral code and the ambassador’s changeling-detecting inspection.
• Chapter 25 — Goes silent on the watch; Juice Box frets he’s in danger: he’s actually led his principals to the Akula.
• Chapter 26 — Found dead in the sub’s bridge with five fellow principals, killed by the enraged Quetzalcoatlus; Carl loots his watch and a torn page about her true nature.
