The Death of Miriam Dom

A refused mercy kill that still cures a plague

Cornered, exhausted and unable to free herself from the Fragile, frozen Prepotente, the vampire Miriam Dom summons Carl not to save her but to end her. As the plague’s progenitor (“Princess of Hell”), her death cures every crawler infected within the last month, though her undead army goes uncontrolled rather than halted. She entrusts Carl with her love for her “babies” and asks him to one day explain it to Pony. Refusing to murder her outright, Carl marks her with his own Ring of Divine Suffering (“Left to Fester”) and stands watch; at sunrise she whispers “my beautiful boy” and turns to dust, leaving Carl to protect the orphaned Prepotente.
