Notification · debuts Book 8, Chapter 59 — “Gold Tires and a Cursed Sock”
Negative ROI / Separation Anxiety (debuff)
Debuff · a curse wearing System clothing
The debuff that settles over Dong Quixote once his sock abandons him. The System tags it Negative ROI, which reads as an accounting joke until Mistress Tiatha recognises what is actually underneath: a curse also known as Separation Anxiety. It kills slowly rather than quickly, draining health steadily while ignoring healing potions and blessings alike, and unlike an ordinary curse it cannot be lifted at a temple. Imani can slow the slide but not stop it, and the only cure anyone can name is returning the sapient weapon along with every single coin it lost, which stopped being possible the moment a hundred NPCs pocketed the nickels.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 59 — Tipid spots a debuff over Dong's head that nobody recognises and his health begins to dip; Mordecai and Mistress Tiatha work out that the Negative ROI label is hiding a curse called Separation Anxiety, which no temple can lift.
- Chapter 60 — Imani confirms potions and blessings do nothing against it, that she can only slow the descent, and gives Dong about ninety minutes.
