Lore · debuts Book 4, Chapter 28 — “Emberus”
Primal Degeneration (“Going Primal”)
Why the System AI is losing its mind
Mordecai's name for the System AI's increasingly unhinged behavior this floor: the cruel achievements, the photos of plaintiffs' mothers, the gleeful lawsuit gloating. Every Macro AI intelligence eventually goes insane. There's even a clinical term, “Primal Degeneration” (or “going primal”), which Mordecai implies is how the Primal race itself got its name. It usually only surfaces by the twelfth floor, making this season's early madness notable. By Syndicate law a Macro AI is a protected lifeform, retired into its own sealed system to drift for eternity rather than be destroyed.
