The Twist

The rule change Zev announces over the loudspeaker once most teams have reached their pit stops. Each track carries four separate heats and each pit stop joins four tracks, so every heat rolls at random for the track it runs in the second half; the assignment lands the moment that heat's leading team times out. Outstanding quests are not lost, because the same quests are mirrored on all four tracks and transfer with the team. Carl's heat is moved off the jungle onto Satan's Water Park, which splits the party from Elle McGibbons and Imani C.

• Chapter 47 — Zev reveals the twist at the pit stops; Florin and Lucia Mar draw the water park, Chris Andrews 2 keeps the desert, Prepotente takes the jungle, Elle McGibbons and Imani C get the slums, and Carl's heat is sent to Satan's Water Park behind Team Sparkles.
