Satan's Water Park
One of the four race tracks that share a pit stop, and the one Carl's heat draws for the second half. Its upper half is dozens of waterslides that Carl compares to the Iron Tangle, though with a far easier map to follow: the fully enclosed tubes all empty into Satan himself, while the wide half-pipes at a slight angle are the correct path. The lower half is part carnival, worked by season pass holders, splatter penguins and demon pixies, with a choice of the toddler splash pad, the wave pool, a giant loop-de-loop and the River of Sloth. Passing through the central junction springs the track's trick: the ground drops out and the whole field is dumped into the waterworks and pipes below for a long circuit in the dark that ends at a Garden Gnome Sprinkler.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 47 — Visible from the shared pit stop as a wall of tubes, and drawn by Carl's heat in Zev's random re-roll. Florin and Lucia Mar transfer onto it from the desert; Carl's team starts an hour behind Team Sparkles.
- Chapter 48 — Carl reviews the map: slides reminiscent of the Iron Tangle, the enclosed-tube trap that leads into Satan, and the ground-level split between the toddler splash pad, the wave pool, the loop-de-loop and the River of Sloth. Dr. Metcalf holds the map.
- Chapter 49 — Carl's truck runs the half-pipes through swarms of zipper shrews and season pass holders, reaches the carnival at ground level, then climbs the park's outer wall on its spider legs to skip the trapdoor into the waterworks.
- Chapter 50 — The fourth heat ends with the park wrecked: its lazy river frozen and choked with dead, and the giant loop that dominated the lower half of the park headbutted off its footings by Satan, raining rock and metal across the finish straight.
