The Scavenger's Daughter (Celestial Patch)
Carl's prize from his first Celestial box (the Apex Predator achievement, for killing the last hunter on Floor Six): a unique, divine, fleeting back patch of stacked skulls sewn in fiberoptic-like thread. Affixed to his Anarchist's Battle Rattle it doubles every patch's stat bonus and adds +25 Strength and +25 Dexterity, plus three benefits: Climb; the Mysterious Bone Key (a one-time skeleton key for ANY lock that consumes a bone from Carl's own body and destroys the jacket); and the headline Soul Reaper: every melee kill charges a Soul Essence bar that can be dumped into one devastating attack whose effect varies with the souls stored (Mordecai once saw a crawler one-shot a country boss to shattered stone this way). As a divine item it gains or loses powers near gods and demons.
Book 6 appearances
- Chapter 3 — Carl’s first Celestial-box prize: the divine Soul Reaper back patch.
- Chapter 27 — Carl learns the Daughter’s Kiss hits far harder when the captured souls are all one species: a pure charge of Howling Gull souls turns an iguana to dust in a ten-foot crater.
- Chapter 58 — In the presence of Sheol royalty (Amayon) the celestial patch “opens her eyes,” converting all of Carl’s fire spells to Sheol Fire.
