Self-Immolation

The signature spell Carl gains on reaching Devotee (the highest rank a non-Cleric/Paladin can hold) in the church of Emberus, awarded by the “Baptism by Fire” notification after he survives the burning hydra. Once a day (reset on the obeisance countdown, not on cast) it wraps the caster in a sphere of Sheol Fire: “fire with rabies” that turns wood to ash and rock to lava, expanding 0.15 m per spell level, 1.5 m around the body at level 10. It costs no mana but, like Donut's berserk spell, engulfs everything around the caster, so it can't be used with allies nearby. The Devotee rank also upgrades Carl's Burn immunity (no heat/lava environmental damage) while raising his tithe from 5% to 10%.

• Chapter 47 — Granted with the “Baptism by Fire” promotion to Devotee after Carl survives being set alight in the hydra fight; raises his tithe to 10%.
