Taranis & Hellik (The Twin Suns)
Bubble #543’s day/weather cycle
The Air Quadrant's sky illusion runs on a myth: Taranis, the yellow sun, strolls ~22 hours across the dome chased by his smaller red brother Hellik, who catches him four hours before dark. When both suns share the sky the heat is unbearable; their meeting triggers the daily two-hour sandstorm, after which there are two hours of “night.” The looming Red Equinox, eleven days out, will flip the pattern: Taranis caught and gone for all but four hours a day, with doubled storms, meaning the team's final days here will be mostly dark and blowing.
Book 4 appearances
- Chapter 3 — A dromedarian explains the cycle; Katia works out the team has ~12 hours before the killing heat.
- Chapter 6 — The second sun rises and the heat empties the streets: cover for the city-hall infiltration.
- Chapter 31 — Emberus, half the sun duology, manifests on Floor 5; his twin Hellik is named as his would-be killer.
- Chapter 32 — Carl’s Emberus faith turns killing Hellik, and avenging the murdered Geyrun, into church quests.
