Apartment 214 (Youth Facility)

A what-if room that is not an apartment at all

The second-floor room on the racing course turns out to be a dormitory rather than a home: hard overhead lighting, industrial tile, bunk beds running the length of the space, the smell of industrial cleaner over all of it. Carl recognizes the type of building in under a second, notes that this one is somewhere else in the world entirely and possibly China, and is staggered by the thought that they might all be like this. A crowd of girls between roughly six and twelve has gathered in a far corner around two of their own trading punches. Ten gates are seeded in the room and only one of them is not a trap.
