Zero Zone

A bubble of space placed outside the System AI's influence. Orren triggers one in his liaison office using a costly engineered emergency zone-shield ball that explodes into light, snapping off Carl's menus, returning crushing gravity to his feet, and nauseating him: the same dampening Carl felt in past exit meetings. Orren uses it to question Carl privately about his implant for ~10 minutes before Harbinger can arrive, gambling his job to mute the watching council. The AI's avatar later reveals it could break the zone at will and that Orren's zero zones were only ever a courtesy.
