The truck teleports into a private garage in Hungry Eyes, where the GPS unit reads out heat two: ten kilometres of paved rolling hills under rain and giant hail, two randomly assigned paths each guarded by a gatekeeper monster, three hours, and Donut driving. Hedy lays out the pit rules — three mercenaries a heat hired from a bar in town, the truck regenerated to its pre-race form afterward, no home-built magic upgrades — then walks Carl through three mobility choices. Carl picks the Retractable Legs, thinking ahead to the weapons on offer and to the crawler-versus-crawler races that Zhang's report about Li Na makes inevitable. Mongo and Rend raid the truck's freezer.
