Thorns Carl plucks out of Rend's hide after the Avernus Creeper runs the trailer down. Each one can grow into a full-sized Avernus plant, which the System calls one of the most invasive species known to the universe — whole planets have been lost to it — while promising that none of them will sprout on this floor. Mordecai is delighted, asks Carl to keep every thorn and not to take them out of inventory again until the safe room, and plans to put them toward a Botanist's Table attachment for his alchemy table.
