Character · debuts Book 8, Chapter 28 — “Interlocution”
Botis
Caprid · Magistrate of the tunnel event
The caprid who hosts Carl and Donut's interlocution on Plenty of Plenty, introducing himself as the magistrate of that night's tunnel event. He is a black satanic-looking goat of the same breed as Harbinger, though shorter, with a goofy, deadly earnest expression that reminds Carl of Prepotente. He greets them bouncing on the spot, tries to shake a hand that passes straight through Carl, calls Donut sir, announces the show has been live since the guests were named, then screams a death sentence at them and cheerfully stays it the moment they appeal.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 28 — Opens the programme, sentences Carl and Donut to death on air while the shadowed herd chants along, then lifts the sentence on appeal and hands them over to be judged one goat at a time.
- Chapter 29 — The host's demeanour flips once more as the news lands, and he loses his own show entirely: he slides into the panic with the rest of the council and finally bolts, running straight through Carl and Donut as his holo flickers out.
