Chandra's Marriage Claim on Carl

Chandra invokes Widow's Rights in Naga court and has Carl declared her husband. The judge refers it to a public jury, which finds the idea of punishing Carl by forcing him to marry her funny enough to vote the union through overwhelmingly, and adds the traditional wedding gift — the holdings of the defeated — as Carl's prize in a fan box. As his wife and therefore his signatory in most legal matters, Chandra can then act for him; she is granted beneficiary status and files a will she does not strictly need. Donut reads the certificate in the negotiation room and observes that a goddess had already said Carl was married.

• Chapter 0 — The whole filing takes a few hours from the Ventilator's communications room and is done before Faction Wars finishes. Carl is not present for any of it; the first person to read the ruling is Donut, and it is the only page in Chandra's second folder that stops her.
