Definition · Samantha's Recap · Interlude: Chandra
Book 8 opens on three fronts. A dictionary entry defines a parade of horribles twice over — a procession of grotesque costumes and monster floats, and the legal habit of stacking up terrible hypotheticals. In the personal space, Samantha has claimed Carl's room and is redecorating it with sluggalos, a borrowed carpet and a swing she insists is a chandelier, while giving Tipid and Bigs a scattered, unreliable recap of Faction Wars that ends on Justice Light breaking the Nothing and Scolopendra waking up. In an interlude aboard the Naga battle cruiser Ventilator, Princess Chandra, Esquire, informs Donut that she has invoked Widow's Rights to marry Carl, put Donut under a conservatorship with Carl as guardian, seized the Princess Posse's accounts and sent two Taurin enforcers after Carl's lawyer. Donut answers with a fifty-million-credit bounty she is careful to state she is not offering.
