An older dwarf inventor and CrawlCon presenter: the smiling figure from the cover of “Dr. Ratchet’s Guide to Building Automatons for Fun and Profit.” Carl bumps into him in a shared studio aboard the Valtay vessel; Ratchet, who can see Carl, wishes him luck and to keep his head down. Afterward Carl finds Ratchet’s parting gift waiting on a table: a level-5 Automaton Table and his autographed book, the missing piece for the weapon Carl’s been chasing, which needs a way to field permanent minions.
