Red Maníseros Land Crab

Pig-sized red-and-black land crabs, masters of the ‘Juego de maní’ fighting style and sworn enemies of the monk seals’ Caribbean Kung Fu. They migrate by the thousand across the ghost-Havana wetlands toward the sea (talking constantly among themselves, even cannibalizing the trampled) to circle the island and choke the seals out with their ‘emissions.’ Their flavor is pure wuxia parody: the lone meditating warrior Raul, a Sun-Kissed Cloud Rank fighter, chants self-help mantras atop a wrecked box truck (‘I will never kowtow!’), forever on the verge of a chi breakthrough his own interrupted meditations keep denying. Their southern sneak-attack migration is what brings the Chowder War to a head.

Book 6 appearances

• Chapter 24 — The migrating crabs (and the meditating warrior Raul) mass for a southern sneak attack on the seals as Carl plans to flag one for his deck.
• Chapter 25 — Carl phases in and out of a box truck to capture the meditating warrior Raul, a Sun-Kissed-Cloud cultivator forever one interrupted chant short of a chi breakthrough, as a deck totem.
• Chapter 29 — Flagged into Donut’s deck, the once-proud cultivator becomes a simpering kiss-ass, but his ranged Bris claw-spell makes him a deadly totem.
