Survival Containment

The rule Zev reads out before the jungle heat. A translucent, indestructible bubble spreads about a meter around each vehicle or mount and keeps the team breathing in air that would otherwise kill them; spells and projectiles pass straight through and existing shields are unaffected. Losing a vehicle or a mount no longer means an automatic loss — it means losing containment, and a team that survives that can still cross the line. Every race this heat also carries a mandatory two-hour pit stop with garage access and vendors selling countermeasures.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 40 — Zev's neutral delivery fills Carl with dread; the bubble buzzes into place around the truck as she finishes, and Carl decides they need more of Mordecai's breathing potions.
• Chapter 63 — Goes live as the heat passes the entrance gate — the field appears, turns invisible, and reports active as a green light in the corner of Dr. Metcalf's interface. Continuous contact with another vehicle for more than five seconds merges the two containments, and each brush triggers a Containment Warning announced in the same voice as the eighth-floor card-battle announcer. Prepotente's mount breaks Carl's first merge before the clock runs out.
• Chapter 64 — Its failure is nearly fatal: the wrecked GTO's containment is not active, so Rapture, Genesis and Corcunda begin cooking inside it, and Corky would have died in his suit if Donut had not pulled him out. The heat just beyond Carl's own containment staggers him and sets Donut's fur smoking within seconds.
• Chapter 77 — Fires the moment the truck pulls up alongside Sweety in the toxic hallway, and is the reason the truck and the tapir keep a deliberate gap between them for the rest of the scene.
