The Garage Key
Race spoils · Loot a rival garage
From this heat on, the winning team is handed a key that opens one defeated team's garage. Inside may be upgrade supplies, other items, or an entire vehicle or mount. A captured conveyance can be folded into the winner's own garage, and teams may switch between what they hold during a pit stop.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 40 — Announced in the same loudspeaker briefing as the survival containment rule, alongside the note that other heats will now share the track.
- Chapter 52 — The heat win also grants a key opening any of the old houses in the cul-de-sac, and Hedy advises using it before spending upgrades in case a better vehicle is parked inside.
- Chapter 53 — Carl's hand on the abandoned house's garage door opens it, while Osvaldo notes that transferring heats forfeited his access to the garages of his old one.
- Chapter 78 — Carl's first instruction on climbing out of the truck is to find who holds keys to the other garages and take the vehicles; Donut reports Dwight is sitting on two of them unused.
- Chapter 87 — Donut's two remaining looted keys are spent to swipe into two rival garages and transfer Onikuma and Old Shuck into her own; the mounts move, but the whole raid takes about two minutes.
