The Inevitable Ruin
curse of the Hunter Wraith
The book's titular concept, first named in Ch15 when Everly recalls what 'their queen' used to call the moment you realize something is a lost cause and nothing you do afterward can change the outcome; Juice Box later gives a fuller explanation in Ch82. It is also a curse inflicted on the mind of the Hunter Wraith (the reason wraiths are so bitter) that warps whatever is pure by forcing the possessor to confront an unwanted truth. When Juice Box possessed Louis to save him, it revealed that he fears rather than loves her. Carl rejects the concept as ‘bullshit,’ hopelessness in another form, insisting nothing is hopeless until you're truly dead.
