Tome of Gatekeeper
Donut's prize for finishing the tenth floor, and the only spell book Carl has ever seen printed as a paperback, its cover a drawing of an angry human woman standing in front of a gate. It is stamped as an Advance Reader Copy: the spell installs now but will not work until the twelfth floor. Seventy-five mana strips a target of everything its class provides for a short window, the duration set by a formula weighing Donut's intelligence against the target's constitution and charisma, which she declines to engage with on the grounds that it is nerd math. Valid targets run to opponents, NPCs, deities and OI entities, a category neither Carl nor Mordecai can identify. Cast on a god it suspends the Worshipper Base Associated skill and spell set, with the System noting cheerfully that this will not stop a god made of lava from using lava. Most of the description is a long, self-implicating rant about fandom gatekeeping, ending on the observation that even the System gets it.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 89 — Donut pulls it out of the safe-room mailbox as her floor prize, refuses to read the duration formula, and zaps it into Carl's hand; he reads the whole entry, tells her it is a good one, and asks Mordecai what an OI unit is, which Mordecai cannot answer.
