Lore · debuts Book 4, Chapter 24 — “Samantha”
Withering Spirit
A split soul that botched its reunion
Mordecai’s term for a soul split in two that fails to reunite cleanly: not alive, not dead, and hard to kill, it ends up haunting an object resembling its original body, with very little power left. The dungeon recycles them constantly as quest-giving NPCs: it once ran a whole floor where every weapon was possessed by one. Remex the skyfowl was a dangerous, purpose-built version (a soul-leech capacitor); Psamathe’s talking doll head is a more stable, minor-deity example. Freeing one requires an exorcism.
