Bubble Buddy

One of three new upgrades lighting up the truck's dash before the jungle heat, alongside an anti-flip gyro and re-sizable all-terrain tires. The knockoff edition is a shield the team can electrify; a further regular upgrade turns it into the golden edition, and one more after that lets the vehicle float.

Book 8 appearances

• Chapter 40 — Shown as a new dash light before the race, bought out of the C&W&U's top-shelf upgrade stock.
• Chapter 52 — The regular shield held all race except under the ginger swarm and cannot float; the golden version stops molten steel - though not for a whole race - and paired with booster rockets it carries the truck across long gaps.
• Chapter 63 — Newly upgraded for the heat and run alongside the Heat Sink button to hold the cab temperature down inside the factory. Its floating upgrade, mixed with the gyro, keeps the truck stable through the untested rocket jump, lets Carl correct his trajectory in mid-air after overshooting, and keeps him from falling when he runs right off the side of the landing conveyor.
• Chapter 64 — Carries the truck straight over the trapped hole in the doll-room floor that swallowed the Lady Dominators' car.
• Chapter 66 — It triggers as the truck flips off the end of the track and turns a fall into a long glide across a room of crates; it holds until Grull's axe wave slams them down, at which point the shield overloads and winks out.
