The Bopca Mural
The largest painting in the remodelled casino · nobody explains it
Several murals went up on the Desperado Casino's walls in the remodel, and all but one of them are random wartime scenes featuring orcs and Crocodilians. The largest, on the back wall, is a Bopca family standing in front of a mushroom house: a couple, the woman visibly pregnant and also holding a swaddled newborn, and behind them dozens more Bopca families just like them. Every one of them is cowering, looking up at the sky. Carl notes that the painting is ornate and expertly done and completely out of place in the room, and no one in the chapter accounts for it — it simply hangs there, unexplained, in a casino run by a faction the System will not name. Mitch backs against it while he dies, leaving it blood-splattered.
Book 8 appearances
- Chapter 85 — Carl catalogues the casino's new murals and singles out the largest: a pregnant Bopca woman with a swaddled baby, her partner, and dozens of families behind them, all cowering under the sky, ornate, well-done and entirely out of place.
- Chapter 86 — Mitch, the last mimic standing, backs against the mural as he is shot apart, and it ends the fight blood-splattered.
